The Pennsylvania Historical Association invites proposals for its 2017 Annual Meeting to be hosted by the Lackawanna Historical Society, Scranton, Pennsylvania, October 12 – 14, 2017. The program committee welcomes and encourages proposals on all aspects of Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic history.

In addition, the committee invites submissions on the theme, “Public Histories of the Mid- Atlantic,” which explores the many ways in which the public engages with the past. Sessions may focus on all aspects of public history, including but not limited to pedagogy, community and civic engagement, class projects, oral history, food studies, historical landscapes, the work of government agencies, museums, local archives, and historic sites. The program committee especially encourages sessions that broaden our understanding of the meaning and role of public history in the Mid-Atlantic and the innovative ways in which public history is becoming increasingly relevant in the twenty-first century.

Full session proposals are strongly preferred, but the committee will also consider individual paper proposals. The committee also invites proposals from graduate and undergraduate students for a poster session.

Proposals must be submitted electronically by March 10, 2017!
